THE SITUATION

HB 11, a bill that would ban transgender students from playing sports in Utah, passed the Utah State legislative session in March of 2022. It was a devastating blow to the LGBTQ+ community. The day before the Legislature was going to overturn the Governor’s veto, the Utah Pride Center decided to rally at the steps of the Capitol in protest.

THE SOLUTION

With just 30 hours before the rally, I quickly came up with a social media and media relations strategy to generate some buzz.

THE RESULT

1 - Social media posts promoting the event generated more than 30K likes and over 3,000 shares on Instagram and Facebook.

2 - Every local news outlet in Utah attended the rally gaining us significant media coverage.

3 - More than 1,000 protestors and community members attended the rally.

4 - Most importantly, the transgender youth who attended the rally learned they were loved and supported.

Westminster University

THE SITUATION

As Great Salt Lake water levels continued to drop, the Great Salt Lake Institute (GSLI) at Westminster College was gearing up for the 2022 Legislative Session where several bills would greatly benefit the overall health of the lake and bring water back to its vital ecosystem. Our challenge was reaching lawmakers, as well as followers, to inform the public about the work GSLI was doing, and the importance of passing legislation that would benefit Great Salt Lake.

THE SOLUTION

I was hired to create social media content that would inform followers of the conditions at Great Salt Lake, and bring awareness about the scientific work GSLI was performing. Through a social media strategy, we not only were able to create engaging content for followers, but were also able to reach lawmakers.

THE RESULT

1 - Produced over 20 informative social media videos, along with other well-designed content that engaged their followers and gained the Great Salt Lake Institute some online credibility.

2 - Implemented a long-term social media strategy.
